This guide covers how to invite teammates to your Critic organization, choose their role (Owner or Member), and what happens after the invitation is sent.
Prerequisites
- You must be an Owner of the organization. Only Owners can send invitations.
- You need the invitee’s email address.
- The organization must already exist (created during signup or via the dashboard).
Steps
- Log in to Critic at critic.inventiv.io.
- Navigate to your Organization from the dashboard.
- Open the Invite a Member form within the organization.
- Enter the invitee’s email in the Email field.
- Select a Role from the dropdown:
- Member (default): Can view the organization and its bug reports and add comments. Has no access to invite others or change organization settings.
- Owner: Can manage billing, edit organization settings, invite and manage other members, and delete the organization.
- Click Send Invitation.
- A confirmation appears: “An invitation has been sent to [email].”
Email addresses are case-insensitive. Jane@example.com and jane@example.com are treated as the same address.
What the Invitee Receives
The invitation flow depends on whether the invitee already has a Critic account.
If the invitee already has a Critic account:
- They receive an email with the subject “You’ve been invited to join [Organization Name].”
- The email contains an Accept Invitation link.
- Clicking the link shows the organization name and assigned role: “You have been invited to join [Organization Name] as a [role].”
- They click Accept Invitation.
- The dashboard confirms: “You have joined [Organization Name].”
If the invitee has no Critic account:
- They receive an email inviting them to create a Critic account.
- Clicking the link opens a registration form (name, password).
- Completing registration automatically accepts the organization invitation.
- They land in the dashboard as a member of the organization with the assigned role.
Troubleshooting
Error: “This person has already been invited to the organization.” Cause: A pending invitation already exists for this email address. Fix: Wait for the invitee to accept the existing invitation. If they didn’t receive it, ask them to check spam. The invitation remains active until accepted.
Error: “This person is already a member of the organization.” Cause: The email address belongs to someone who has already accepted an invitation. Fix: The person already has access. Check the organization’s member list to confirm their current role.
Error: The Invite a Member option is missing or inaccessible. Cause: You are a Member, and only Owners can send invitations. Fix: Ask an existing Owner to either invite the person directly or change your role to Owner.
Error: “You must be signed in with the email address the invitation was sent to.” Cause: The invitee clicked the acceptance link while logged into a different Critic account. Fix: Sign out, then sign back in with the email address that received the invitation before clicking the link again.
Organization-Scoped Access for Agencies
Invitations are scoped to a single organization. Inviting someone to Organization A gives them access only to Organization A. Agencies can safely invite client stakeholders to their specific organization without exposing other clients’ bug reports or data.
